Change of hearts 3

Allie's POV
I patiently sat on one of the chairs in the kitchen as Dr. John Watson bandaged up my elbow. "It's not that bad."he informed me. "Just a small cut and some scratches around it. In about a week it should be healed.". "Thanks."I answered when suddenly Mr. Holmes decided to join the teaparty. He watched carefully how his partner finished with bandaging up my elbow before he spoke.
"I have a gift for you."he told me and dropped something very small in my handpalm. "A diamond?"I asked confused as I watched how the tiny crystal glittered in the sunlight that came through the window. "Yes. Found it on the crimescene."the detective stated and looked at me challenging as if he wanted some kind of revenge concerning our conversation back in the livingroom. That or... He was testing me.
I looked back at the tiny thing in my hand. "Single cut round shape diamond."I said. "Clarity SI 1, quality... G-H color rated. About one milimeter big, maybe a bit more. I would say... 27 pounds for one.". "You sure?"Mr. Holmes asked me. I looked at him as if he was joking. "I'm the granddaughter of late Howard Jamesson and the daughter of late Kenneth Jamesson who were both big boys in the diamondindustry. Of course I'm sure."I replied as I gave him the diamond back.
"Brilliant!"he cried out what almost caused that I jumped out of my seat. I looked curiously at Dr. Watson asking him the silent question if his collegue had gone mad. "Don't worry."the doctor assured me. "He's always like this.". "The killer wore fake leather gloves and a piece of jewellery that had this small diamond in it."the detective in question started. "This means he has a big reputation but isn't in the financial possibility to buy the things who put strength to this reputation. He has to go for the second choices. Leather gloves, but fake. Jewellery with diamonds, but little ones.".
"The whiskey..."I whispered. "Ah!"Mr. Holmes said and took a seat across from me. "You just figured out what I knew from the start, didn't you?". "I know who did it."I replied. "I know who killed my grandfather.". "Jeeves Rennolds."the detective pointed out. "Wait a sec... Who's that ?"Dr. Watson wanted to know. "My grandfather's right hand in business."I replied. "You know John, that guy who almost ran Lestrade and Donnavan over when we entered the premises."Mr. Holmes helped his partner remember. "Mr. Rennolds said that he was paying Mr. Jamesson an unexpected visit but that Mrs. Jamesson already had discovered that body by then. He also said that he couldn't stick around because there was a diamondauction this afternoon where he needed to go to. Lestrade wrote down his adress and personal info and then let him go.".
"What makes you so sure he did it?"was Dr. Watson's next question. "The small pieces of the puzzle John."Mr. Holmes simply answered. "The fake leather gloves, the small diamonds and..."he pointed at me. "The whiskey."I filled in. "It was a special bottle that my grandfather only shared with one person which was Jeeves Rennolds. Whenever Jeeves would come over, my grandfather would take the crystal bottle filled with the liquer from the cabinet and put it together with two glasses on the small wooden table in the livingroom.".
"The bottle was already out of the cabinet the moment Mr. Jamesson got killed."Mr. Holmes continued. "The print in the dust proves that. With other words, he was expecting Rennolds while Rennolds on his turn said that his visit was unexpected. Plus I also managed to catch a glimpse of the pin he wore on his vest. It was a cross with four tiny diamonds in it, but there was one missing.". "But..."I started. "If you knew it from the start, why this whole investigation?". "Because Lestrade refuses to just believe my brilliant conclusions and wants evidence with it."he pointed out. "Plus... Otherwise it isn't fun.".
"But..."I answered. "If killing my grandfather was an impulse then why...". "Did he try to kidnap you?"Mr. Holmes filled in. "To confuse us."he told me. "Well, to confuse most of you. He didn't confuse me obviously.". "Or maybe he hoped to earn some money from his actions."John remarked. "Then he better had kidnapped my grandmother's teaset instead of me 'cause she won't even spend a penny if my life is concerned."I answered and stood up from my seat.
"Gentlemen, I want to thank you for your help with solving the case of my grandfather's murder."I told the two men. "And Doctor Watson? Thanks for the first-aid on my elbow.". With that I left the kitchen and retreated to my room.

Sherlock's POV
I watched how Allie walked away and I couldn't help to feel... Saddend?, that this case was already solved. "Have you told Lestrade about your conclusion?"John asked me to pull me back from my thoughts. "Yes, I called him to save him the extra trip from the garden back to the house.". As I said this my eyes stayed fixed on the chair where only a few minutes ago Allison Jamesson had been.
"Poor girl."John commented as he noticed my stare. "She lost every single person in her life who cared about her and now all that's left is the grandmother who on one way or another reminds me of the mean step mother from the fairytales.". With that comparisation I couldn't help to chuckle.
"She's smart."I said. "That would be an understatement."John pointed out. "I talked to some people of the staff... Allison used to go to a normal school when her parents still lived. She aced every test and her freetime she spended behind the piano or played the guitar along with her mom.". "But that changed when she moved here."I concluded.
John nodded. "She got homeschooled from then on but on a very high level. She still plays piano but the guitar got banned from the mansion by Mrs. Jamesson. Though, one of the girls who works in the kitchen told me Allie often sneaks out the house and then goes to this club where she and some of her old friends rehearse as a band. She's the leadguitarist.".
"We can't leave her here."I concluded. "Her intelligence won't be used on the level it can functionate.". "Wait a second..."John said. "Are you thinking about kidnapping her?". "Though I would do a better job then Rennolds did, no."I pointed out. "We're just taking her with us to Bakerstreet 221B.". "Her grandmother won't let her."my partner remarked. "She will after I talk to her."I assured him.
"Where is she gonna sleep?"was John's next question. "We don't have any room anymore at our apartment and apartment C isn't exactly a healthy place to live.". "I clean out one of my studies."I told him. "Clean out one of your studies?"John repeated in disbelief. "Ow my God. You really do care about her, don't you?". "I care about the fact that she's smart and that she'll be a great addition to our team if that's what you mean."I answered. John shook his head and sighed.
"I swear Sherlock, the day I finally discover how your brain works, they'll put me in a mental hospital.". "Don't worry John. I'll make sure Mycroft breaks you out then."I replied as I pushed my body away from the counter where I was leaning against. "Now, care to have another nice little chat with Mrs. Jamesson? This time I'll do the talking ofcourse.". "Can't wait to see the fireworks that show is gonna give."John commented as he also got to his feet. For the first time in my life, I didn't mind to be 'social' for once...
Typical Sherlock to know the killer from the start but still do the investigation just to prove his point, no? :giggle: Hope you guys like it! :huggle:
