Yue’s POV
“Yue, my dear, you look beautiful.”my mother spoke in a weak voice before coughing. It was the night of the Introduction ball and as promised I stopped by at the infirmary all dressed up for my ill mother to see. The dress I wore was a strapless white dress with a sweetheart neckline. The skirt just failed to touch the floor thanks to the silver coloured high heels I wore and had a bit of a ‘mermaid’ cut. The fabric was covered with small silver, sparkling rhinestones till the upper part of my legs. My hair had been done in a beautiful and royal looking up do with a thin and elegant tiara stealing the show along with the silver strands that hinted to my title as a goddess.
“I wish Father was here to see me.”I said softly as I took a seat on my mother’s bed. She seemed so weak, so frail. So different from the strong woman that raised me. “I wish you could be at the ball with me.”I added.
My mother smiled. “Your father and I will always be with you in your heart Yue.”she told me. “No matter where you go.”. She placed her cool hand on my cheek. “My daughter, the goddess of the moon and the stars.”she mused. “A gift is in order for that, don’t you think?”. I looked at her confused as she pulled out a dark blue coloured box that fitted on her hand perfectly from underneath her pillow.
“Just like me, your father got informed about your destiny as a goddess the day you got born.”she said and offered me the box. “He got this made for you to give you on this day. Wear it with pride Yue.”.
Carefully I took the lid off the box only to reveal the white golden necklace inside with a crescent moon as pendant. On the moon the outlines of stars were engraved, each holding a tiny diamond in its centre.
“Mother… It’s breath taking.”I honestly confessed. “Proves that your father envisioned you well.”my mother replied with a chuckle. “My Ivarr was like that.”. Somehow I could see the longing in her dull eyes to be again with the man she had loved and still loved so dearly.
“I should get going.”I informed my mother. “When you have one of the Princes of Asgard as your escort, it’s very rude to show up late. Even with a good excuse.”. “I’m pretty sure Loki would wait for you.”my mother replied. “He would always wait for you.”. “What do you mean with that?”I wanted to know. She gave me a knowing smile as she settled back against the pillows. “You’ll learn the meaning of those words eventually dear.”she promised me.

“Oh my Odin, you look stunning!”Sif told me the moment I stepped into the room where all goddesses-to-be were waiting for their call to descend the large staircase that led into the ballroom. Of course we had to wait until all the gods-to-be were announced first.
“You don’t look bad yourself.”I praised my friend who wore a long and rather tight fitting golden dress with matching high heels while her black hair was pinned against her head with a bronze hairpin shaped as a scorpion. “What did I miss?”.
“The boys’ introductions.”she said. “Loki turns out to be the god of lies and mischief – who would have thought that?- and Thor is the god of thunder.”. “Wouldn’t have thought that either.”I said with a giggle. “Girls, it’s show time!”our eccentric and hyper instructor exclaimed as he ushered the first girl out of the room.

“Lady Sif, goddess of war!”I heard a loud voice announce on which a storm of applause could be heard. A smile appeared on my face. Of course she was. “Lady Yue, your turn!”my etiquette instructor said and pushed me towards the large heavy doors that would lead towards the ballroom’s staircase.
“Lady Yue, goddess of the moon and stars!”that same loud voice said and a second later the doors got pulled open on which I took a confident step forward. Smiling I descended the stairs to the perfect of elegance, just as we were taught. Everyone clapped, including Loki who was waiting at the bottom of the staircase like a good escort, grinning from ear to ear.
“You were right.”he told me the moment I reached him and placed my hand in his so he could lead me to the dance floor, ready for the traditional first dance. “Green and gold don’t suit the goddess of the moon and stars.”.
At that moment the familiar tunes of a waltz echoed through the room. Loki wasted no time in guiding me through the routine steps. “But…”he whispered, taking our physical closeness to his advantage, “I hope the god of lies and mischief can suit said goddess.”. A playful smile played on his lips as his green eyes bore into my blue ones.
I felt how a faint blush crept to my cheeks as I thought back of my mother’s words. ‘He would always wait for you.’.
“Who knows. Maybe he will.”I replied softly, smiling myself. “If he tries hard enough.”. Loki chuckled amused. “That, my little sparkle, I can promise you he will do.”.
