Dark star 2

- Haunting dreams-

Angelo’s POV
Most of the kids my age would jump right up when their grandmother needed their assistance. To be a goody-two-shoes in the old woman’s eyes, to get a nice reward in the form of money or to be the next hot topic on her weekly tea party with the other old folks where their name would be dropped when they reached the ‘brag about your grandkids’ time.
When your grandmother is nobody else than the goddess of the night Nyx, you jump twice as fast and twice as high. My reward? To be able to breathe for a little while longer…
The task seemed simple. A few nights ago there had been this star rain and a few meteorites had managed to reach the earth in only a small form of what they once were. Along these meteorites was what Nyx called a ‘dark star’. Apparently not all stars shine and sparkle at night. Shocker, I know.
These dark stars are an essence of pure darkness and act as a natural counterpart to the twinkling stars we know. Having a dark star reach earth without being burned by the atmosphere was extremely rare and ‘rare’ and ‘Nyx’ appear to be good friends.
All that being said about grams, she was nice enough to tell me where to look for her precious dark star. An old antique shop called ‘Collecting curiosities’ in Baltimore that was owned by this guy named Syllektis. After that she disappeared into the shadows and didn’t come out again. I took that as my queue to leave. So I informed Chiron about my family quest, hopped onto my bike and drove all the way to my destination.
Before I took a shot at my quest however, I decided to take a small break to eat. So I parked my motorcycle into an empty parking spot at the edge of a small coffeehouse named ‘The Hideout’. Now, as a child of Thanathos I’m used to a lot of things so I’m not easily caught off guard. When I entered The Hideout however, it felt as if someone had given me a personal shower with ice water.
There, behind the counter, stood the girl from my dreams. And I mean it literally. For the past three weeks, she had appeared in all of my dreams. According to one of my friends Valentina who happened to be a daughter of Eros, I had called that upon myself when I had claimed out loud there was no girl on this planet meant for me and that I was going to stay single forever. That same night the dreams had started about this blonde and hazel eyed girl.

As I approached the counter, she smiled warmly at me. “Welcome to The Hideout.”she greeted me, her voice a sweet melody which became my favourite song immediately. “How can I help you today?”. My eyes darted to the menu panels that hung behind her on which I told her my order. As she put it into the computer, I looked at her, half expecting her to recognize me the same way I had recognized her. That didn’t happen however.
“Euhm… That will be 3,70 $ please.”she told me. I paid, she gave me the needed change. “Just take a seat over there and I’ll bring you your order in a sec.”. I couldn’t help to smile at her words. “I’ll be waiting for you.”I promised her before I went to take a seat.
It took about five minutes for her to reappear from the kitchen with my requested sandwich and coke. “There you go.”she said as she placed the tray in front of me. “If you need anything else, feel free to ask.”. “I have one question, yes.”I spoke causing her to abandon her thoughts of dashing off. “When I leave a tip, do you prefer dollars or Drachmas?”.
The girl’s face paled slightly and she chewed her lip. “Dollars will be fine.”she muttered and was about to turn and walk away when I stopped her again. “I have seen you cry in my dreams.”I told her. “Your eyes are too beautiful to leak tears. So I can’t help to be curious about what makes you cry…”. She stood there nailed to the floor and completely lost in thought. I reached out to grab her hand in order to snap her out of her trance. When her brain caught up on the movement I was doing, panic sparked in her brown eyes.
“No! Don’t…”she started but it was already too late. I watched in surprise how the girl’s hazel eyes turned black the moment my hand touched hers. The whole moment took less than a minute but when her eyes turned brown again, she withdrew her hand from mine as if it was hit with lightning.
“Don’t go to Syllektis.”she said to me in a shaky and scared voice. “What?”I asked confused. “Why not?”. The girl looked at me, her face a mask of fear and sadness. “Because you’ll die there.”she whispered loud enough for me to hear.
She used my loss for words as her chance to escape to the safety of her counter. In the background I heard her voice yell to someone she was going to take a break, that she needed some air. My eyes travelled back to the tasty sandwich in front of me but no matter how tasty it looked… I suddenly had lost my appetite.
Because someone was very curious about how I would write down Angelo ;) Hope you like it :)
