Not slaves anymore 9

Enjolras’ POV
“You sure it’s Darnoire?”I asked Gavroche as I followed him through the dark streets of Paris. “Well, that’s how Evi called him so yeah… I’m pretty sure.”the little thief replied and stopped at the entrance of a small street. I froze in place when I saw how two men held Evi up while a third one was slowly making his way towards her, a familiar dagger in his hand.
“We need to find a way to get rid of them.”I quickly observed. “Already on it!”Gavroche assured me and took off not bothering to tell me what exactly he was planning to begin with. Guess I have to trust him and that meant I had to stall…
“Hey!”I called out as the guy with the dagger was just a step or three away from Evi. My shout didn’t only make him look up but also his companions. “Leave her alone!”. With that I stormed forward, adrenaline running through my body and tackled the armed man to the ground before I planted my fist in his face.
I kept punching him until someone pulled me back from him. When I looked up I realized it was one of the men who had been holding Evi down. The guy who I had tackled to the ground got back to his feet slowly before he spit the blood that had filled his mouth on the ground.
“Playing the hero, are we?”he sneered as he wiped the few droplets of blood that decorated his chin. “Do you have any idea who you’re taking it up against?”he asked me next. “A jerk who beats up girls.”I replied, my voice coated in venom. The man stepped forward, making his way over to me and pushed me into the wall. I heard how Evi who was standing next to me slightly whimpered when the man did so.
Where was the confident girl with the cheeky remarks I knew? Why was she so scared of this guy? “The name,”the man started, “is Darnoire.”. Ow… Forget I asked…
I sideways at Evi who looked back at me with eyes full of fear and sadness. Slowly I looked back at Darnoire making sure I looked him directly in the eyes as I grabbed Evi hand and gave it an encouraging squeeze. “As I said.”I spoke. “A jerk who beats up girls.”.
Darnoire’s laugh echoed through the empty ally before his eyes focused back on me. “Not only girls.”. He raised his fist, ready to punch me in the face but never got the chance since a voice interrupted his action yet again.
“Hey!”the voice called out on which Evi and I glanced at each other for a second before we looked back at Darnoire and his crew. We both knew that voice. It belonged to the young thief with blond hair called Gavroche. “This is what you get when you pick on one of us!”. His comment got followed by stones which got launched at the three men and seemed to come from everywhere.
On instinct I pulled Evi towards me and made sure she got spared from the stones by placing her in between the wall and my body. We both heard how Darnoire ordered his men to get ‘those rats’ but ‘those rats’ where with so many that they didn’t even try to follow his order and decided to flee. Darnoire followed not long after that.
“And that is what little people can do!”Gavroche called after them, sending some more stones their way as a parting gift. Gavroche’s friends cheered in victory and high fived each other. I let them have their little party as I helped Evi sit down on the ground.
“Hey, how are you feeling?”I asked her. “As if I just walked down memory lane.”she answered and groaned. “And memory lane hit hard.”she added with a small smile. “What are you doing here by the way? I thought you had a revolution to plan.”. “Gavroche came to La Musain and said you needed help.”I quickly explained as I checked her for injuries.
Her lip was busted and bleeding what made me conclude she had met Darnoire’s fist from up close. Her left hand was bleeding too and the fact that she had groaned when she sat down told me her ribs weren’t in a good shape either.
“Thanks.”Evi said breaking up my observations. “I must say… For a pretty boy you have hell of a right hook.”. Her comment made me laugh what on turn caused her to laugh. “You think you can walk?”I asked her when our laughter subdued. “With some help.”she answered locking her eyes with mine.
I helped her to her feet again and supported her as we staggered slowly out of the ally, Gavroche observing us with a knowing smile. “Okay, this is going to take forever if we do it like this and as you pointed out earlier, I still have a revolution to plan.”I remarked. “What do you suggest then?”Evi wanted to know and looked up at me curious. I flashed her a smile at the same time Gavroche’s laugh echoed through the night. The boy knew what I was planning.
“Why do I have the feeling I’m not going to like this?”Evi questioned. “Because you probably won’t.”I admitted on which I scooped her up in my arms bridal-style. “Enjyyyyyyy!”Evi whined using the nickname I pretended to loathe. “What?”I asked her amused. “This is way quicker.”. Evi huffed annoyed. “Fine.”she gave in. “But atleast put me down BEFORE we enter La Musain.”. “Of course.”I agreed not really looking forward to the teasing and taunting both of us would encounter if we entered the café like this…
Enjy saves the day! With a little help of Gavroche of course ;) Hope you guys like it and please leave a comment with your thoughts! :huggle:
